On 18 September GREEN RAY hosted the first webinar on Advancing Methane Slip Measurement.
The session brought together experts from science, industry, and regulation to share the latest knowledge on methane slip measurement and its role in making LNG-powered shipping more sustainable. 🚢💨
🔹 Kati Lehtoranta (VTT & GREEN RAY Coordinator) presented results from recent studies comparing different methane measurement devices, both in lab settings and on board modern cruise ships. Her findings showed that several methods beyond the traditional FID can deliver reliable results – an important step for wider adoption.
🔹 Badr Moutik (SGMF) highlighted lessons learned from the Onboard Methane Slip Emissions Measurement report, offering practical guidance on measurement campaigns, methodologies, and industry-wide best practices.
🔹 Fabian Dr. Kock (DNV) provided insights on emerging technologies and regulatory developments, including new IMO guidelines and EU frameworks shaping how methane and nitrous oxide emissions will be measured and reported.
Together, these contributions reinforced the importance of accurate methane measurement, methodological alignment, and regulatory readiness for accelerating maritime decarbonisation. 🌍
A big thank you to our speakers and participants for making this a dynamic and insightful session.
