Advancing Methane Slip Measurement: Insights from GREEN RAY and Beyond | Webinar

18 Sep 2025
Online

Time: 10:00–11:00 CEST

The GREEN RAY project is pleased to invite you to an expert-led webinar exploring the latest developments in methane slip measurement. Taking place on 18 September, this one-hour session will bring together key voices from research and industry to share practical approaches, project insights, and future outlooks on reducing methane emissions from maritime engines.

This webinar will feature presentations from leaders in the field, offering a unique opportunity to learn about current methodologies, regulatory developments, and emerging technologies shaping the way forward.

Agenda

1. Latest Measurement Findings from GREEN RAY

Measuring methane with different devices

Speaker: Kati Lehtoranta (VTT)

Kati Lehtoranta is a principal scientist at VTT and adjunct professor with a focus on emission control with sustainable engine fuels and exhaust aftertreatment. She has over 20 years R&D experience in the field of engine emissions and emissions reduction technologies. Her recent research has focused on marine emissions, and she is currently leading the EU funded GREEN RAY project.

2. External Insights on Methane Slip Measurement

Onboard Methane Slip Emissions Measurement: Practical Insights and Industry Lessons Learned

Speaker: Badr Moutik (SGMF)

Badr Moutik is a Technical Advisor for Marine Decarbonisation at the SGMF and a Doctoral Researcher at the University of Plymouth, specialising in life cycle assessment (LCA) and decarbonisation strategies for the maritime sector. His research examines greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and environmental impacts from alternative marine fuels.

With experience spanning academia and industry, Badr has worked as a sea-going marine engineer officer, project engineer in maritime logistics, and marine engineering lecturer. He is co-author of the report Onboard Methane Slip Emissions Measurement: Practical Insights and Industry Lessons Learned.

3. Emerging Technologies & Regulatory Developments

Speaker: Dr Fabian Kock (DNV)

Fabian Kock is Head of Section Environmental Technologies Air at DNV in Hamburg. His section supports DNV’s decarbonisation strategy by certifying ship energy efficiency under the EEDI and EEXI frameworks, as well as emissions from marine diesel engines and exhaust gas after-treatment systems, including SCR catalysts and scrubbers. He also oversees a laboratory for measuring exhaust gas components and particulate matter.

Beyond DNV, Fabian advises the German Ministry of Transport at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) on emissions and greenhouse gas reduction. Previously, he led the Approval Section at DNV’s Approval Centre in China, gaining international experience in ship newbuilding.

The session will also include audience interaction to reflect on key challenges and opportunities in advancing methane measurement practices.

🔗 Stay tuned and join us to be part of the conversation driving maritime decarbonisation forward.
